Arisi Upma




Arisi upma when made for breakfast at my mother's place would make us have a second and third serving. Such is the taste of this dish. It used to be enjoyed in combination with Brinjal Gotsu.

Ingredients

Raw Rice—1 cup
Toor Dal  - 2 tbsp
Grated Coconut  - 1/4 cup
Salt - to Taste
Water - 2 to 2 1/2 cup

For Seasoning

Red chillies - 3
Curry Leaves - a few
Green Chillies - 3 chopped
Urad Dal - 1/2 tsp
Mustard - 1/4 tsp
Oil - 3 tbsp
Asafoetida - to taste

Procedure

1. Wash and dry  rice on a sheet of paper.
2. Once dry grind it along with the toor dal to sooji like grains
3. In a kadai, heat oil on a medium flame, add all the seasoning.
4. Add the water and salt.
5. Once it boils, add the coconut and rice powder and stir without lumps.
6. Close and cook for 3 minutes on a simmered flame.
7. Arisi upma is ready
