Peas Pulav


I tasted Peas Pulav prepared this way for the first time at my aunt's place and since then I fell in love with this dish. There is something special about the flavours in this recipe. When had with raita, it just tastes heavenly.

 

Preparation Time : 20 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Servings : 2 

Ingredients

Basmati Rice - 1 cup
Peas (Fresh / Frozen) - 1/2 cup
Coconut milk - 1 cup
Water - 1 cup
Ghee - for tempering
Cardamom - 1
Cinnamon - 1/4 inch piece
Bay leaf - 1
Jeera - 1 tsp

To grind

Coconut - 1/4 cup crated
Garlic - 1 clove
Ginger - 1/2 inch piece
Chopped Coriander  - 2 tbsp
Green Chillies - 1 (or) 2 as per spice preference
Poppy Seeds - 1 tsp
Cashewnuts - 4

 

Procedure
1. Wash and soak basmati rice for 15 minutes. Drain and set aside
2. Meanwhile grind together the items given above to a fine paste
3. Heat ghee for tempering, do the tempering
4. Add the peas and cook for 1/2 a minute
5. Add the ground paste, the rice and salt.
6. Add the coconut milk and water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
7. Peas pulav is ready to serve with Raita

I prepared this peas pulao recipe for lunch today. Nice aroma, mild spicy Flavors, simple and tasty dish :-). Should try next time using the coconut powder mix (blended frozen coconut and milk for today's cooking).
