Poli




Puran Poli is prepared with a dal puran and maida cover and when cooked to perfection cannot stop one from asking for more. Traditionally it is made with hands like a round chapati by stuffing the maida cover with the puran

Preparation Time : 40 minutes
Cooking Time : 30 minutes
Serving : 12- 15 

Ingredients

For the filling

Chana Dhal (Kadalai paruppu) – 1 cup
Jaggery (Powdered) – 1 cup
Cardamom – a pinch
Grated coconut—1/2 cup

For the cover
 
Maida – 1 cup
Turmeric powder – 1 pinch
Salt – ¼ tsp
Refined Oil – 1 to 2 tsp
Ghee for cooking the poli

Procedure


1. Prepare the dough with maida, salt and turmeric as you would for chapatti.
2. Mix the oil into the dough and let it rest for a while
3. Meanwhile cook the chana dhal in a pressure cooker for 2  to 3 whistles. Consistency : Once it is cooked you should be able to mash it with your hand.  Drain the water from the dhal.
4. Grind this dhal and jaggery and grated cocomut  together in a mixer.
5. Pour a little oil in a kadai and cook this mixture till it comes together.
6. Add Cardamom and Let it cool.
7. Now take lemon sized balls of the dough and roll it. 8. Put the mixture as you would for paratha and roll it carefully making sure the mix doesn’t spill out.
9. Heat a tava and cook the poli on both sides with ghee. Your delicious poli is ready to eat.
