Kabuli Chana Chat

The first time I had this was when my mom made this for my class party on the last day of my 5th standard in Hyderabad. The flavour is something I have not forgotten to this day. Thankfully, my husband is a big fan of these protein packed sundals. So even if I give this everyday, he will be the happiest. However, he prefers this version to the traditional, seasoned sundal with grated  coconut and it is definitely more healthy.

Preparation Time : 10 minutes
Cooking Time :10 minutes
Serves : 2

Ingredients

Kabuli Chana / Chick peas - 1 1/2 cups
Potato - 1 big, boiled, peeled and cubed
Onion - 1 big , chopped finely
Tomato - the thick portions cut finely (4 tbsp)
Cucumber - 1 small, chopped finely(Optional)
Green chillies - 1, chopped finely (Optional - if you don't like it very spicy, avoid this)
Coriander - 4 tbsp ,Chopped finely
Lemon Juice- to taste
Salt - to taste
Chat masala - to taste

Procedure

1. Soak the Chick peas overnight and pressure cook for 3 - 4 whistles with a little salt till cooked completely and soft.
2. Drain the cooked chickpeas, add the potato, onion, tomato, cucumber(if adding), chillies, salt, chat masala and lemon juice.
3. Mix thoroughly.
4. Serve garnished with chopped coriander.

Note

1. This protein packed snack is ideal for the evenings and it keep kids full for longer while giving them a lot of strength.
2. I have realized that if you have any of these whole pulses(Kabuli chana, pindi chana, lobia, rajma etc), that you have stocked up for a very long time but have not cooked, they don't cook properly as the fresh ones. You might need to cook them for longer than specified here with a pinch of soda.
