Onion Chutney

This onion chutney is my favourite. I love to have this with idli, dosa and curd rice. It tastes amazing. Sometimes, I add a tomato, coriander and mint / pudina if I want a strong flavour. Try it with these too. While adding tomato, cook it with the onion. Add  the coriander and pudina at the end after switching off the flame and grind together.

Preparation Time : 15 minutes
Cooking Time : 15 minutes
Serves : 2

Ingredients

Onion - 3 medium
Tamarind - a small gooseberry size
Red Chilli - 3
Salt - to taste
Oil - 2 tbsp

For Seasoning

Mustard - 1 tsp
Urad Dal - 1 tsp
Oil - 1 tsp

Procedure

1. Peel and slice the onions.
2. In a pan, heat oil, add the tamarind, red chilli and onions and cook till the onions turn translucent.
3. Allow it to cool and grind in a mixer with salt
4. In a pan, do the seasoning and add to the onion chutney.
5. This is a perfect accompaniment to dosas.

Note:

I normally like to have dosas crisp, but now a days am not able to have it crisp. There are also days when you would have soft dosas and not feel like having them. On such days the dosas would go into your tummy in a jiffy if you have it with this chutney.
